Summer 2021

Entrances Get a Makeover

You may have noticed some improvements starting at some entrances. Peabody Landscaping has begun repurposing, enhancing and adding some much needed year round beauty and color to our entrances. We are still working on getting uplighting at Walnut and New Albany Links Drive, but it’s coming very soon!

Park Expansion

We have been talking about the park at New Albany Rd E and Sumption for several years now, but it’s finally becoming a reality! The City has officially agreed to build out our park and loved our ideas so much they plan to use it as a template for the new neighborhood park program throughout New Albany! The latest update from the City is that improvements will start in June/July! Existing structures remain, these are additions to the existing space.

Dog Days of Summer!

Sooooo many neighbors adopted new furry friends during covid, we love it! Please be a responsible pet owner and pick up after your pet. Dog Waste Stations are available throughout the neighborhood for your convenience! Also remember that all dogs must be contained on your property. As cute as they are, they can make some folks nervous and not all are a fan of being approached, so be sure your dog(s) are on a leash and under your control at all times!

Links Pub!

Come check out the New Albany Links Pub. We are open to the public and would love to see everyone from the neighborhood stop by sometime. The restaurant is now open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week with food specials happening all the time. We have expanded to open a new upstairs patio that will be available when there is not an event using it. We have also added fire pits to our lower patio, to enjoy when we have one of those cooler evenings. The restaurant has undergone a lot of changes with new management in place and the kitchen has a new chef too. Happy summer to everyone and hope to see you soon!

Block Watch

Please remember to close garage doors and lock cars when parked outside. If the neighborhood is not an easy target, it won’t be worth a thief’s time to come through here!

Re: Maynard Place Address Assignment

Date:   January 25, 2021

Quick Facts:

  • There are 47 properties on Maynard Place and Maynard Place East, and 22 of them share the same street number (11 on each street).

  • The majority of residents did not support previous attempts to formally change addresses and/or street names.

  • Two new street sign posts were added in 2019 to improve wayfinding at the request of residents.

Background:

In January 2019, the city staff began working with the residents of Maynard Place and Maynard Place East on a solution to resolve the challenges resulting from similar street names and duplicate house numbers on properties on each road. The challenges to residents include mail delivered to the wrong home, visitors not being able to locate the correct home and concerns about receiving emergency services in a timely fashion.

The city staff sent two letters to all 47 residents in January and March of 2019 asking for feedback on two potential solutions to the issues. The first proposed solution was to change one or both of the street names and the second proposed solution was to change the street numbers that conflict with one another. 17 property owners responded to the letters. There was not a consensus for either solution however, several residents suggested installing additional street identification signage as a potential third solution.

In August 2019, the city installed two new street signs where Maynard Place intersects with Maynard Place East. Additionally, the city used a larger font size for the word “east” in Maynard Place East in order to make it more clearly identifiable. The city staff sent a final letter to residents informing them that the new streets signs would be installed and welcomed feedback if the additional signage did not address the issue. Since the signs were installed, the community development department has not received any additional resident complaints, however Councilman Fellows has reported that deliveries continue to be misplaced.

Action Items:

In response to Councilman Fellows’ observations, the community development department is reviewing the location of wayfinding “pins” used by directional services to ensure that they are accurate. The staff is reviewing pins used by Google Maps (which is utilized by Apple Maps, Garmin, Waze use Google Maps) and Microsoft Bing Maps. If pins are found to be erroneously located, the staff will submit a request to the company to correct their locations. Historically, it has taken 4-6 months for the maps to reflect requested corrections/changes.

Additionally, the service department is having additional signage fabricated for the southern intersection of Maynard Place and Maynard Place East, next to the golf course. The sign will have dual posts and be closer to the ground in order to better attract the attention of drivers
